Rooibos (Aspalathus linearis) is a fynbos shrub that grows exclusively in the Cederberg mountain region of the Western Cape. It cannot be cultivated commercially anywhere else in the world. This is not a branding claim — it is a botanical and regulatory fact backed by EU Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status.
Any extract marketed as Rooibos extract that does not originate from South Africa is either mislabelled or fraudulent. BioAhead sources from verified, established SA producers with full traceability to region of origin.
Red (Fermented) grade
Traditional process. Characteristic reddish colour and sweet, earthy flavour profile. Widely used in functional beverages, herbal infusions, and food fortification. Lower aspalathin content but broader consumer familiarity.
Green (Unfermented) grade
Skips the oxidation/fermentation step. Higher polyphenol and aspalathin content. Preferred for nutraceutical and cosmetic active applications where antioxidant potency is the primary purchase criterion.
